I have been searching variouse other sites and one site that I go to for game help is gamefaqs. There they have a message board for every game so you can ask for help, anyway I came across some interesting information leading to thoughts and rumors that the the world of x and x2 (Spira) are connected to ff7(Midgar and such)
Some basic reference I have read and come up with will now follow. minor spoilers for final fantasyx2.
1. After blowing up the first reactor in FF7 when Cloud and Avalanch head back to the bar(where Tifa works) you can see on the (tv I beleave) that it sais SIN.
2. The kid character of x2 named Shinra on the Gulwings ship has the same name of the important Shinra corp. in ff7. He is verry good in technolagy and such (a conection to Shinra corp?)
2. During chapter 4 of X2 when Yuna is going to perform, Shinra starts to channal the energy of the thunder planes to create a large screen so that everyone can see her. This leads to some other specalations about shinra discovering Mako energy(ff7)
3. (I think that in the begining of chapter 5) Shinra sais that this will probably be the last mission for him as part of the gulwings. (to later discover mako energy as it has been said)

The questions:
-- Is there a connection between Shinra and FFVII?
Nojima: Yes, actually. After Shinra quit the Gullwings he got enormous financial backing from Rin and went to the Farplane to start extracting the Mako energy used by the Vegnagun. But the system for utilizing this energy could not be completed in his generation, so far in the future when space travel was possible, the Shinra Company was founded on another planet... or something like that. That would be a thousand years or so from this game's story.
-- And VII's story takes place after that?
Nojima: Well, you could say that's how I personally feel about it.
Other info sais that when Shinra found the Mako energy he later died and the people of Spira later found out what he discovered. 1000 years later the people of Spira discovered time travel and found the world that became ff7s world. There they created a corp. on that land called Shinra that used Mako energy. They named it Shinra because of Shinra in x2 that found Mako.

edit1: the fact that the people of spira have been said to descover time travel 1000 years later, and find that Sinra (x2) found Mako energy leads to another thought. In ff7 there was a group of people that wr talked about called the Cetra. Cetra are supposed to be space travelers so its thought that The people of Spira are the first Centra people. Also showing yet another conection of ff7 and x/x2.
Some locations and sceans in x and x2 are said to resemble some in ff7.
